To celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., BCDI-Atlanta has partnered again with Grainger Atlanta for an impactful community initiative that combines literacy, service, and celebration. With over 40 volunteers contributing from two branches, there were 250 Literacy/MLK Kits assembled on National MLK Day, Monday, January 18, 2025, highlighting the power of unity and collective action in creating a positive impact. These kits were later distributed during a meaningful event at West Manor Elementary School, bringing joy and resources to students and their families.

Each kit was thoughtfully curated with:

  • Books celebrating Black authors and diverse stories include:

    • Who Was Martin Luther King Jr. (K-2) by Lisbeth Kaiser

    • Martin’s Big Words (3-5) by Doreen Rappaport

  • Educational materials are designed to spark a love for learning.

  • Fun resources for children to enjoy while wearing their peace-themed friendship bracelets in honor of MLK.

The energy and collaboration during the assembly process were remarkable. Teams worked together with enthusiasm, knowing that these kits would make a tangible difference in the lives of children.

The culmination of this partnership was the distribution event held at West Manor Elementary School. The school community gave a warm welcome while Literacy/MLK Kits were shared with students. It was heartening to see the excitement on children’s faces as they received their kits and explored the books and resources inside.

The event also served as a tribute to Dr. King’s vision of equity and empowerment through education, reminding everyone present of the power of community and collaboration.

BCDI-Atlanta extends our deepest thanks to Grainger for their partnership and dedication to making a positive impact. Their commitment to quality service and community engagement goes beyond their business operations, leaving a lasting imprint on the lives of those they serve.

As we reflect on this successful collaboration, we are reminded of our mission to elevate the culture and embrace all voices. Partnerships like this one with Grainger empower us to reach more children and families, ensuring that every child has the tools they need to thrive.

Stay connected with BCDI-Atlanta for more opportunities to get involved and support our initiatives. Together, we can continue to make a difference!
