On June 6, BCDI-Atlanta had the pleasure of participating in the Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS) 2024 Mayor’s Summer Reading Club (MSRC) kickoff event. Held at the Sifly Piazza at the Woodruff Arts Center, this event began a summer filled with engaging reading activities for children ages birth to five and their families.
As a proud literacy partner with GEEARS, BCDI-Atlanta is dedicated to fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning within our community. Our partnership extends to exciting events and initiatives, including our upcoming Literacy Night on Friday, July 16, 2024, from 7 - 8 PM ET, where we will feature this year's MSRC book selections and provide interactive activities for young readers.
This year’s MSRC book selections are truly special. "Noah’s Family Farm," written by the talented 13-year-old Michaiah David Booker and illustrated by Robin Boyer, is a delightful story perfect for infants and babies. This brought to us through Young Authors Publishing, tells the heartwarming tale of a young boy exploring his grandfather's farm, which he will one day inherit. Click to view the READ Guide.
For older children, ages 3-5, "Bina's Harvest" by Lloyd Suh, with illustrations by Nicole Kang Ahn, captures the essence of patience and timing during the apple harvest at Bina's family orchard. This book, also includes a READ Guide from the Rollins Center for Early Learning and Literacy, thanks to generous funding support from PNC.
The kickoff event was a success, featuring the presence of the book authors who not only read their stories to the enthusiastic young audience but also signed copies of their books. It was a joyous occasion, filled with the sounds of children's laughter and the sight of their eager faces as they immersed themselves in the enchanting world of books.
We invite all families to join us on Friday, July 16, 2024, from 7 - 8 PM for BCDI-Atlanta's Literacy Night, where we will continue to celebrate these wonderful stories and provide fun, educational activities for the children. Let’s keep the momentum going and make this summer a season of reading and discovery!
